Gulvain (Gaor Bheinn), Map 40; 19th October 2005 & 12th May 2009

Route: 1280m = 4200' ascent; 12⅔ miles; 5hrs 45mins.

Access: From Fort William, take A830 W to first junction with A861 (→ Corran). Turn N up track at A830/A861 junction (by W end of Loch Eil), turn right after 20yds, cross river and park just before gate across road up glen.
Route: Road from the A830 to Wauchen is unsafe except for 4 wheel drive with high clearance. There are no passing places at all, not even any verge to use. It is fine to bike as far as edge of forest, but increasingly difficult thereafter. So a bike is useful for 3 miles each way of the walks in and out (used on 12/05/09), but there is 120m of ascent. Ignore notice on gate about bridges; they have been replaced.
It is easy to include the Corbett Braigh nan Uamhachan, as in the description below for 12/05/09. It adds a bit over 300m (1000') to the ascent and 1⅓ miles to the distance.
Note also, of course, that the trig point is on the subsidiary north top and not on the summit of the Muntro, which is ¾ mile further north.
Terrain: Clear path to top; mostly good, but wet, peaty start.

Weather 12/05/09: Sunny cloudless day, light cool E wind.
Mobile: Orange reception at both tops of Gulvain, on the Corbett and at car parking.
