Route: The path up from Fersit is poor: wet & boggy.
It is faster & easier & more pleasant to avoid the path.
(1½hrs ascent by my cross-country route, but 1¼hrs descent by path between
track and pt 978.) One path starts at the car park, the other from the highest pt
(295m) on the upper track SW of the dam. Both head for a 10' high concrete obelisk on the sky line.
In winter conditions note the remarks below on cornices.
Alternative routes, starting further west at Coire Choille Farm, enable these two Munros
to be combined with other mountains, such as the two Corbetts Cruach Innse and Sgurr Innse
or the Munro Stob Ban.
Conditions: Stiff cold breeze in am; 7°C at start, 15°C at finish;
total cloud cover base 1000m till 1215, then no cloud.
Continuous ground snow above 975m, slightly too soft.
Cornice to climb over at the top of Stob Coire Easain (only just soft enough to
kick steps). Also a very wide cornice on Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin.
There were huge, deep holes in the snow around 10m in from edge,
probably indicating the edge of the ground & the start of the cornice –
perhaps just above a gully, but definitely beware as such holes could be
covered with thin snow that you could fall through!
