Beinn a'Chaorainn & Beinn Teallach, Map 34; 21 March 2007

Route: 12 miles, 4020' ascent, 7.8 hrs.

Route: This walk is a standard pairing of two Munros and can be done in either direction. Note, however, that the anti-clockwise direction ends in a potentially difficult river crossing. Indeed, it is unwise to descend the S ridge of Beinn Teallach in very wet conditions expecting to be able to cross the Allt a'Chaorainn. Check the river level before ascending either hill and, if crossing at the usual ford is likely to prove difficult or dangerous, return from the summit of Beinn Teallach to the bealach and follow the path the full length of the Allt a'Chaorainn, crossing to the east bank much higher up, as indicated on the map (at about 525m). The hills are easily climbed separately with a return either directly southwards from their summits or indirectly via the head of the Allt a'Chaorainn valley.
Note that the true top of Beinn Teallach was established by differential GPS in 2009 as being just over 3000' and the highest point is at the smaller NE cairn, not at the apparently main SW cairn.
The speeds below are slow because of very hard work walking in soft snow.
